Story

For 15 years, lawyer Marrien Graves ( Goldie Hawn ) can not forget his beloved Rick Jarmin ( Mel Gibson ), who, together with a friend, went to a deal in Mexico and did not return. He was declared dead, and instead of the wedding, Merrien cried at Rick's impromptu funeral.

Suddenly, at a Wisconsin car service station, she accidentally stumbles upon a guy very similar to her ex-fiancé. But this guy is acting like he is seeing Merrien for the first time.

Things were like this: Rick and his friend 15 years ago, flying in a private plane, got into trouble with drug dealers who were FBI agents - Sorenson and Diggs. They forced the young guys to smuggle drugs on their plane from Mexico to the United States. Failure to do so cost the life of Rick's friend. Rick Jarmin himself was a witness in the case of Sorenson and Diggs and was forced, fearing the revenge of former FBI agents, to hide under false names for 15 years (under the so-called “ witness protection program ”), working in various places as a farmer, hairdresser and zoo cleaner. No wonder Rick is forced to hide his real name from Marrien.

Late in the evening, Merrien creeps up to the car service building to find out who the guy is, and unexpectedly saves him from death at the hands of the avengers. Fleeing from the persecution, the couple drives through all of Rick's former workplaces to find shelter and decide what to do next. Unexpectedly for themselves, both find out that they still love each other and want to be together.

But these plans are hindered by old acquaintances of Rick, who pursue the lovers and eventually overtake them at the zoo. It was there that Rick and his bride came into confrontation with criminals and emerged victorious.
