It was Thomas Enquist , whom Mardi outplayed 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. In April 2002, together with Andy Roddick, won the first ATP doubles title at a tournament in Houston . 2003-04
In early 2003, he reached the quarter-finals in Sydney and the third round of the Australian Open . After his sensational performance at the Olympics, Mardi was unable to adequately end the season. In no tournament did he advance beyond the second round. According to the results of 2004, he took 37th place in the ranking. At the very end of the season, he played for the US team in the final meeting of the Davis Cup , which the Americans lost to Spain with a total score of 2-3.
2005-07
The season of 2005 was catastrophically unsuccessful for Fish. He has a negative match balance of 7-11 this season. Having lost at the end of August in the first round of the US Open Ivo Karlovich , Mardi finished his performances of the season. Missing the last part was due to injury to the left wrist. [3] As a result, according to the results of the year, he took only 225th place in the rating.
He continued his speech at the end of January 2006, but until the beginning of April he could not overcome the stage of the first rounds. In April, he managed to win the Challenger tournament in Tallahassee , and then win his second ATP single title. It happened at a tournament in Houston. Having won another Challenger in London in June, he returns to the first hundred in the world ranking. In July 2006, Fish twice made it to the quarter finals twice at tournaments in Newport and Washington . And once again he reached this stage in October at a tournament in Metz . He finished the 2006 season, he is in 47th place.
2007 begins for Mardy successfully. For starters, he reaches the semi-finals of the tournament in Auckland . Then, at the Australian Open, for the first time for himself, he enters the quarterfinal of the Grand Slam tournament. In February, it is worth noting the quarter-finals in San Jose and the semifinals in Memphis. Further its results again went into decline. He managed to overcome the barrier of the first rounds only once. In August, Fish reached the final of the tournament in New Haven . Despite not stable performances, the season ends better than the previous one, taking 39th place.
2008-09
At the beginning of 2008, he took part in the Hopman Cup team tournament, at which, together with Serena Williams and Megan Shaughnessy , he managed to win the title. The first quarter finals of the season played in San Jose and Delray Beach. Having almost left the limits of the first hundred, in March 2008 he manages to surprise many specialists by reaching the final at Masters in Indian Wells . In the semifinals, Fish unexpectedly 6-3, 6-2 easily defeated the first world rocket Roger Federer. On his way to everything else, he managed to beat two tennis players from the top ten: No. 4 of Nikolai Davydenko and No. 7 of David Nalbandyan . In the decisive match, he lost to Novak Djokovic 2-6, 7-5, 3-6. This result pushed Fish in the ranking of 58 lines up immediately to 40th place.
Later in the course of the season, as happened with Fish more than once, there was a lull in the results. Only in April did he get into the quarterfinals of the tournament in Houston. Fish began to gain sportswear for the US Open. To begin with, in August he reached the semi-finals in Los Angeles and (like last year) played in the final match of the tournament in New Haven. At the most open US championship, he first managed to reach the quarter-final stage. At the end of the season, he played only in two tournaments, stopping twice in the second round and by the end became the 24th.
In February 2009, Fish made it to the finals of the tournament in San Jose, but is inferior to Radek Stepanek in the fight for the title. He is rehabilitating himself at a tournament in Delray Beach, where he won his third career single ATP title. With Andy Roddick, he won the doubles title at Masters in Indian Wells. In the future, nothing particularly remarkable by the results of 2009 was not remembered for Fish. Only in Estoril , London and Los Angeles does he reach the quarterfinal stage, and after performing in New Haven due to a rib injury, he finished his performances of the season. [four]
2010-11
At the beginning of 2010, he marked the semi-finals at the tournament in Sydney. In February, the same result was achieved in Delray Beach. In June, at the grass tournament in London, managed to get into the finals. On the way to him in the match of the third round, he managed to beat the 4th in the world Andy Murray 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (2). In the final, Mardi Fish lost to compatriot Sam Querrey . July was a good month for him, when Fish won two tournaments at once. First in Newport, and then in Atlanta . In August, for the second time in his career, he managed to reach the finals at Masters in Cincinnati, where he lost the first time (in 2003). This time he lost to Roger Federer. At the US Open, Fish stopped in the fourth round. At the end of the year, he took the highest place in his career in the ranking of 16th place.
In 2011, Fish can be said to have acquired the necessary stability in his performances at tournaments of the World Tour. In February, he reached the semifinals in Memphis and Delray Beach. In March, he achieves the same result at Masters in Miami. In the unpaved part of the season, he marked the quarter finals in Houston and the modest, but nonetheless best for himself result in the French Open in the third round.
The Wimbledon tournament pleased Fish with a victory over last year's finalist Tomas Berdych and reaching the quarter-finals, which also became his best result. In July, he managed to defend his title for the first time. It happened at a tournament in Atlanta. In Los Angeles, he reached the finals, but lost to the Latvian tennis player Ernest Gulbis . In early August, he again gets into the finals at a more prestigious tournament, namely Masters in Montreal . He only succumbed to the phenomenal season, the first in the world Novak Djokovic. This performance allows Fish to reach the highest position in his career in the world ranking of 7th place. In Cincinnati, he won against Nikolai Davydenko , Richard Gasquet , Rafael Nadal and, as a result, reached the semi-finals of the tournament. At the US Open, Fish comes to the fourth round for the second year in a row.
The best performance after the championship in the USA for Fish was the semi-finals in Tokyo . Based on the results of his performances in 2011, he selected for the Final tournament , where he could not leave the group, having lost all three matches. Fish finished season 8th in the world.
2012
Mardi Fish begins the season at the Australian Open, where he lost in the second round match to Matthew Ebden . Also in the second round, he lost in February to tournaments in Marseille and Dubai. He lost again to Matthew Ebden in the third round match in Indian Wells . The first time he managed to overcome the first rounds at Masters in Miami , where he managed to reach the quarterfinals.
On May 23, 2012 he underwent heart surgery. But despite this, he still plays as a seeded player (No. 12) at Wimbledon, and when he reaches the fourth round he is inferior to Tsonga . After that, he decides to refuse to participate in the Olympic Games in London .
