UEFA Champions League HIK

Season 1998/1999

HIK is the only Finnish club to play in the group stage of the Champions League [1] . This happened in the 1998/1999 season after defeating Metz in the second qualifying round with a total score of 2: 1.

In the group stage, HIK played with PSV , Benfica and Kaiserslautern [2] . The team achieved positive results in matches with Kaiserslautern (0: 0) and Benfica (2: 0 and 2: 2). As a result, the team took 4th place in the group, gaining 5 points.

Season 2011/2012

In the second qualifying round, the HIK away defeated the Bangor City club from Wales with a score of 3-0 [3] , and on July 19, 2011 the club set a record for performance in the UEFA Champions League by defeating Bangor City in their field with a score of 10: 0 [4] .

Season 2015/2016

In the second qualifying round, HIK defeated the Latvian “ Ventspils ” (3: 1, 1: 0) [5] . In the third round of selection, the Finnish club lost to Astana in a dramatic fight: the first match ended in a goalless draw, in the course of the second match, in Kazakhstan, the HEC took the lead 2-0, conceded three goals, then equalized (keeping the draw, the Finns would have passed further - according to the “away goals”), however, already in the compensated time, Astana residents set the final score 4: 3 and went further [6] .
