The film (the action covers the time from January to November 1976) begins with the 15th round of heavy fighting shown in the first film. The fight lasted 15 rounds, both boxers received significant injuries. After the fight, Rocky calls Adriana, who rises to the ring. Apollo Creed is declared the winner of the fight by a refereeing decision, Adrian and Rocky hug, and Rocky tells her that he loves her.
Apollo is completely dissatisfied with such an unconvincing victory and, despite the fact that immediately after the fight he said that there would be no revenge, he himself calls Rocky to the return match whenever and wherever he wants, but Rocky refuses. After the battle, Rocky and Apollo are taken to a hospital in an ambulance, where they meet again in the lobby. Rocky then comes to the ward to Apollo and asks the enemy: “Have you given all your best?”, To which he replies “Yes”. Although Apollo Creed managed to maintain the championship on points, he is angry at Rocky, because he is the first person who managed to hold out until the end of the fight. Apollo demands revenge, but Rocky says in response that he is leaving boxing. He makes this decision because of the danger of blindness. After staying in the hospital, Rocky enjoys the profits earned from the fight with Apollo. He buys the first car, a two-story house, and marries Adrian. Rocky decided to use his image of "The Italian Stallion", acting in commercials, but he does not succeed due to poor reading.
Rocky cannot find a good job due to lack of education, and agrees to work as a loader at a meat processing factory where Polly used to work. He will soon be fired from this plant due to a reduction, and Rocky comes to his coach Mickey with a request to become his manager and help him fight again. He refuses, saying that Rocky is almost blind and does not see with his right eye. Then Rocky asks to work as an assistant in Mickey's room. Adriana is pregnant, but she is forced to return to her old job at a pet store . At the same time, Creed receives many letters with harsh statements about his victory over Rocky and that the battle was fake. He decides to put more pressure on Rocky, so that he accepts the offer of revenge. Rocky has problems because of this pressure. He decides to accept the Thanksgiving challenge and begins training. Mickey teaches Rocky to fight right so that he better protects the sore eye and gets the advantage of surprise. However, Adriana resists the return of her husband to the sport, and without her support, Rocky disappears desire to train. When Polly quarrels with her sister and tries to persuade her to support her husband, she loses consciousness, she begins a premature birth. After the birth of a son, Adrian falls into a coma. Rocky stops training to be next to his wife. Adriana has been in a coma for quite some time - during this time, Rocky even learned to read quite well. When Adriana emerges from a coma, Rocky and her son are brought to her. Rocky also sees him for the first time, since he wanted to look at the child only with his wife. Rocky tells Adriana that if she wants, he will not participate in this fight, to which Adriana asks him: “Do one thing for me. Win it! Win! ” After that, he begins to seriously train and reaches his best form.
As in the first film, Rocky’s training includes a run in South Philadelphia, but this time people welcome him since he became a local celebrity after the fight with Apollo. During the run, children join him and their number increases. By the time he reaches Benjamin Franklin Boulevard in the city center, hundreds of young people manage to join him. Ultimately, they follow Rocky to the top of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, enthusiastically shouting his name. And at that moment, Rocky throws his arms up in victory. Rocky and Apollo meet again in the ring. Apollo immediately begins a quick attack, which bears fruit. He wins the first two rounds and earns leadership by points. But during the battle, Rocky suddenly throws the opponent back, turning the battle into a fierce battle. At the beginning of the fifteenth round, the Apollo coach asks the latter not to try to knock out Rocky, since he is already winning on points, but Creed, who is outraged, decides to prove to everyone that he can end the fight by knockout. Mickey advises Rocky to switch to his left hand. He initially refuses, but during the battle decides to obey and knocks down Apollo with a final blow. However, from sheer exhaustion, Rocky also falls. The referee begins to count 10 seconds, and the wrestlers of the last forces try to get up. The battered and tired Apollo drops sharply into a corner, and Rocky, holding on to the ropes, gets to the score “9” and he is declared the new World Heavyweight Champion. In the post-match speech, Rocky thanks Apollo for the fight and Mickey for his help in training, and after that he shouts out: “Adriana! I did it! ”
