Story
The protagonist of the game is the farmer Jack. At the beginning of the game, he stands at the very top of the skyscraper and begins a story about how he got here. It all started on his farm. After he fed the pigs, the lights went out. Knowing that this happens, Jack called the repair service, but there was a dead silence on the phone. Then he did not attach any importance to this. Afterwards, in the courtyard, Jack saw a suspicious man. Deciding to find out what he needs, Jack approaches the stranger, but gets a strong blow. Jack tries to defend himself, but the stranger does not react to any blows. Jack then kills him with his rifle in the attic. Other strangers came to Jack for the stranger. After killing them all, Jack noticed that the strangers looked like corpses lying in a cesspool. Deciding to find out what is happening, Jack goes to the neighbors through the cornfield, but it's too late. The strangers just ate his neighbors. On TV, Jack learns a terrible explanation for everything - the dead around the world came to life and eat the flesh of the living. Gathering his strength, Jack fights off all the dead who surrounded the house. He decides to stay on the farm. But his reserves were slowly running out, the dead were arriving, and Jack himself was slowly going crazy with loneliness. Suddenly, the radio said that the military had organized several shelters in the city. Realizing that there is nothing to lose, Jack goes to the city.
The city is engulfed in flames, and all its roads are clogged with cars. Jack sees a man in the window who is sending him an SOS signal. But the man was in the hospital and, in order to get there, Jack had to break through the hordes of the living dead. Then, using the sewage system, he approaches the hospital. In the hospital, he finds the survivor - the Doctor. He tells Jack he got to the city to resupply, but when attacking the dead, he locked himself in the guard room. The door is locked. The doctor asks Jack to open it. But the flame from the city covers the hospital, destroying it. Jack reaches the Doctor, but he has already turned into a dead man. Jack kills him, then runs out of the hospital. Passing through the streets, he gets to the police station. There he finds Otis, a long distance truck driver, who was behind bars. Jack finds the remote and releases it, and then, using a sniper rifle, helps Otis run to the truck. Otis unexpectedly leaves, shouting something to Jack, from which he dismantled only the word "theater". Through the sewers, Jack gets to the theater and carries out a "sweep" there. After a couple of hours of rest, he hears a truck horn. It was Otis. He tells Jack that there is a “City of the Living,” but he is surrounded by a water fence. The two of them went to the local docks, where they found the last boat, but the gate was closed. Jack and Otis open the gate and then float away. It turns out that Otis was bitten, and he asks Jack to kill him. Jack fulfills the will of his partner and finishes Otis.
Reaching the quay of the City of the Alive, Jack sees that the dead have already overcome the fence. The mayor asks Jack to open a bridge to transport a truck with supplies. Jack does it. But the gate does not close, and the dead are already arriving. Jack, using a machine gun, fights off the dead until the gate is closed. Jack comes to Kaufman - the mayor of the city. He tells Jack to clear the dead "Fidler Green" - an elite skyscraper for the rich. For this, Kaufman promised Jack a place in a skyscraper. Jack agrees. He cleans the garage, lobby, lower and upper floors. Finally, he gets to the top, where he produces the last stage of "stripping." After that, Kaufman opens Fidler Green, Jack gets his apartment, and the dead no longer care about City of the Alive.
But the terror behind the walls does not stop. The dead have already passed the water fence and are trying to pass through the concrete wall. Then one of the dead men notices a sledgehammer at the body of a military man. Raising it, the dead man thinks of how to use it. He strikes the wall, knocking a piece out of it.
