Basile, Alfio

Alfredo Ruben "Alfio" Basile ( Spanish: Alfredo Rubén "Alfio" Basile ; November 1, 1943 , Bahia Blanca ) - Argentinean football player and football coach . He acted as a defender , played for the Argentinean clubs " Racing " ( Avellaneda ) and " Hurricane ". He played in the national team from 1968 to 1973 . As the head coach of the Argentina national team, he won the America's Cup twice.

Alfio began his career at the Racing Avellaned Club. In 1967, he and his club won the Libertadores Cup and the Intercontinental Cup . In 1971 he moved to Huracan .

Coaching

As a coach, he headed Veles Sarsfield , San Lorenzo , Colon , Boca Juniors , Atletico Madrid , Nacional , America and others.

He headed the Argentine national team twice: from 1991 to 1994 , resigning after an unsuccessful performance at the 1994 World Cup , and from September 2006 to October 16, 2008 , resigning his post after losing to the Chilean national team in the 2010 World Cup qualifying tournament .
