Story
The film takes place in the United States in 2019 . [4] After a devastating earthquake and the ensuing economic crisis , a totalitarian government comes to power in the United States. Democratic institutions are destroyed, censorship and curfews are imposed . Instability caused fierce morals: the most popular television programs were brutal and bloody television shows , sometimes ending tragically. The government uses such television programs to divert public attention from internal problems. Participants in one of these shows - “Running Man” - become prisoners in prisons who have the chance to undergo severe trials and gain freedom, or die in front of viewers at the hands of pursuing hunters.
One day, Ben Richards ( Arnold Schwarzenegger ), with his unfortunate comrades Weiss and Laughlin, becomes a participant in the show. Richards, as a police officer, refused to obey orders to shoot participants in a hunger riot in California from a helicopter. The helicopter's crew twisted it, shot the rebels, and Richards himself was accused of shooting unarmed people and sent to prison. Richards and accomplices, having disabled the security perimeter, arranged a group escape from prison, and managed to get rid of explosive devices stuffed with explosives, similar to an electronic bracelet and an electronic collar . Richards later took Amber Mendes as a hostage to the composer to get out of the country with her help, but she raised the alarm at the airport and Richards was captured by the police. The producer and host of the Running Man show, Damon Killian, by means of blackmail, seeks consent from Richards to participate in the show. To further excite the audience, Killian shows them a fake video with Ben Richards shooting a hunger riot in California.
In the first game zone, Richards and his friends kill the first hunter - the killer hockey player Sab-Ziro, which is an unprecedented phenomenon (before that, none of the hunters had died or even been injured). Meanwhile, Mendes secretly finds in the archive a genuine report on the execution of the riot, but she is captured red-handed and, as a punishment, also sent to participate in the show, making her an immoral accomplice of the mass murderer.
In the next zone of the show, the Chainsaw hunter, sawing his victims, mortally wounds Laughlin, but dies at the hands of Richards. Weiss and Mendes, who joined him, crack the codes of the television system, but Weiss immediately dies from the electric discharge of the dynamo hunter armed with the electron gun. Richards disarms Dynamo and declares to the millionth audience that he does not want to kill the unarmed. This causes serious excitement among the public, who begin to sympathize with the merciful "runner."
Realizing that the situation is getting out of control, Killian contacts Richards and offers a deal: Richards gives up, and in return Killian arranges so that he becomes a new hunter. Richards refuses the offer and breaks the camera through which he made contact with Killian.
In the last play area, Mendes finds a room where he sees the burnt bodies of three people. After examining the corpses, she recognizes in them the winners of the last season of the show. The appeared superhunter-flamethrower Ball Lightning explains that it is impossible to win in the show, and frames with happy winners are modeled on a computer . Richards and Mendes defeat him as well, find shelter of the Resistance rebels in the game zone and pass them the tele-satellite codes obtained by Weiss. Now they should be followed by the last superhunter - Captain Freedom, but he refuses to speak, as the policy of the show contradicts the gladiators code , which the hunter believes in.
Meanwhile, Killian, convinced of the impermissible growth of Richards' popularity among viewers, imitates the death of Richards and Mendes in a duel with Captain Freedom using computer graphics . Having learned about his "death", Mendes wants to convince Richards to run, which he says that if you do not finish all this, they will be hunted not by "pompous clowns" in front of television cameras, but by ordinary government thugs. Richards and the rebels take control of the satellite and transmit the entire country the real shots of the shooting of the hunger riot, after which the "killed" Richards appears live , breaking into the studio with the rebels show. In the studio, Richards puts Killian in a special capsule and launches her in the play area. The capsule crashes into a billboard and Killian dies. Richards and Mendes kiss live. Spectators around the country applaud.

First, the director of the post was Andrew Davis , but he did not last long, then George Costamos, [5] and then he was replaced by Paul Michael Glazer . [3] for which this picture was the first science fiction film. [3] He had to start work on a film with material already shot by other directors. [3] The production of Kostamos assumed a budget of around 27 million, but the producers demanded that it be reduced to 18, as a result, the budget still amounted to 27 million, but with another director. [5] Director Alex Koch also wanted to take the stage of the director. [5] De Souza claimed that the version of Glaser’s film was not much different from Davis’s work, he only finished the scenes on the rink and chased on motorbikes, but the main thing was that he was on schedule. [5] TriStar Pictures released the movie on November 13, 1987. [3] The budget of the painting was 27 million dollars, and fees amounted to 38 million. [3]
Script
Posted by Richard De Souza, adapting the eponymous novel by Stephen King . [10] According to the idea of George Costamos, the film was supposed to show police raids and concentration camps, as well as the pursuit of a raft. [5] Filming was planned in Canada and at Edmonton Shopping Center. [5] Ferdinand Feerfax proposed an interesting idea according to which the film should have looked like a live broadcast, during which Ben Richards had problems. [5] Davis wanted the heroes of the picture in the final scene in the studio to be trapped and the hero of Arnold would blow up the guards with the help of the puck. [5] To which the producer replied that it exposes the character in a bad light, if he had the puck the whole film while his friends were dying, then why didn’t he use it. [5] Despite the rejection of this idea, the director still filmed a scene in which the hero hides the puck in his pocket. [five]
Filming
The producers invited the cameraman Thomas Del Ruf, for whom this picture was the first big film. [3] He read the script and, realizing that it was a fantastic adventure film, was very excited. [3] Stephen King visited the shooting of the picture once, talked with the film crew, receiving flattering reviews about his book. [3] According to cameraman Thomas Ruf, working with such actors as Ventura and Schwarzenegger was pleasant, they joked a lot and often smiled, but at the same time they were professionals. [3] Filming at the steel mill was the most difficult for the operator. [3] It was an abandoned factory in California , which was in the process of de-construction for 6-8 months prior to filming. [3] As the factory was in dilapidated condition, with pieces of broken glass everywhere and pieces of metal, it was the perfect place to shoot. [3] The problem was that after 50 years of operation, the entire brick turned black and it was not possible to remove it at night, so the operator asked to spray all 25 acres that he had to remove with glycerin twice, which cost decent money, but it yielded decent results , the surface reflected light. [3] The shooting style was greatly influenced by the famous cameraman Jordan Kronevet, who worked on the movie " Blade Runner ". [3]
Rental
The first weekend, the picture raised $ 8 million at the box office. [11] Total fees amounted to 38 million dollars. [12] The painting was moderately successful due to vibrant scenes of violence. [3] In November 2014, Schwarzenegger received an offer to play in the sequel to the film [13] .
