Pupil of the Krasnodar team "Olympic" [1] . In 2001, he left for Rostov-on-Don , where he began to play for the Rostselmash double. The main team made its debut on October 5, 2003 in a game against Uralan , and at the 51st minute of this match he was removed from the field [2] . He began to play stably at the base since 2006. March 26, 2006 scored the first goal in his professional career, hitting the gates of the football club " Moscow ". In total for Rostov in 2003-2008, Benj played 40 matches and scored 1 goal in the Premier League , 16 games in the first division and 11 games in the country's cup .

In the summer of 2008, he signed a contract with the Terek club [3] . For the club from Grozny, Benj played for a season and a half and during that time he played 20 games (3 goals) in the Premier League and 2 games in the Cup of the country. In 2010, he played for Nizhny Novgorod .

November 29, 2010 moved to the Nizhny Novgorod " Volga " [4] . In the first match for a new club against Tom , Sergey managed to score a goal. July 7, 2011 it was reported that Sergei moved to the Kuban . On August 1, 2012, on loan until the end of the 2012/13 season, he moved to the Tom football club [9] . The debut of the football player in the new club took place on August 6, 2012 in the home game of Tomi against the Kaliningrad Baltika , and Sergei managed to score a goal in the first game. In total for “Tom” in the 2012/13 season he played in 25 matches of the FNL championship, noting three goals.

On January 8, 2014, he signed a contract with Luch-Energiya [10] . Until the end of the season, he played for the team from Vladivostok in 9 matches of the FNL championship, after which he left the team, returning to Tom [11] .

In July 2016 he returned to the Kuban [12] .

In the summer of 2018, he became a player in the newly created Urozhay FC, which made his debut on July 21 in the 1/256 match of the Russian Cup final [13] .

July 26, 2011 it was reported that Sergei was among the 23 players whom the head coach of the second Russian team Yuri Krasnozhan plans to call in order to prepare for a friendly match with the Russian youth team [14] . On August 10, Benj made his debut in the second team [15] .
