Biography
He studied at the gymnasium in Smolensk . In 1918, he participated in the first congress of the RKSM . At the end of 1918 in the leadership of the RKSM of the Western Region, then a member of the Central Committee of the Komsomol of Belarus. Since February 1920 a member of the Executive Committee of the KIM (Communist Youth International). In 1920 he went to underground work in Lithuania. In 1920–22 a secretary of the Central Committee of the KSM of Lithuania, an editor of the newspaper Young Communist. Delegate of the 3rd (1921) and 4th (1924) Congresses of the Communist Party of Lithuania . From 1921 a member of the Central Committee, from 1923 a member of the Organizing Bureau of the Central Committee, in 1926 a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania. In 1921, the delegate of the Third Congress of the Comintern .
Military coup in Lithuania (1926)
After the coup in Lithuania that took place on December 17, 1926, he was arrested and put on trial by the military tribunal together with other leaders of the Lithuanian Communist Party. Greifenberberis was sentenced to death together with Kazys Gedris , Rapolas Czarnas and Karolis Pozheloy . Two more defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment and to eight years. Those sentenced to death were shot in the Sixth Fort of Kaunas on December 27, 1926 .
Memory
- In 1973, the Monument of the Four Communists was erected in Kaunas (aka the Four Communards, sculptors Bronius Vishniauskas and Napoleonas Pyatrulis ), now in the exposition of Soviet sculptures in the Grutas Park [1] .
