Leo, Jean-Pierre

Born in the family of actress Jacqueline Pierreux (January 15, 1923 - March 10, 2005) and screenwriter Pierre Leo (March 25, 1909 - November 5, 1996). He played his first role in the film La Tour, watch out! "(1958). His second role, which immediately brought him fame, was the role of Antoine Duanel in Francois Truffaut 's film “ Four hundred strokes ” (1959). Jacqueline's mother brought him to Truffaut in September 1958, having heard that he was looking for a boy for the main role. Leo at that time studied at a guesthouse in the municipality of Pontini in Yonna and from his hero - a rebel who, due to the coldness of his parents, throws himself into all seriousness, as well as from Truffaut himself at this age - did not differ much, thanks to which he was approved for the role Antoine.

In subsequent years, Leo worked more with the young directors of the French new wave , but primarily with Jean-Luc Godard and Truffaut. In several films, Truffaut played the role of Antoine Duanel (character is an alter ego of Truffaut himself): played the role of Antoine with actress Claude Jade in the role of Christina in the films Francois Truffaut's “ Stolen Kisses ”, “ Family Hearth ” and “ Escaping Love ”.

One of the pinnacles of his career was Mark's role in the 1967 Belgian film by Jerzy Skolimowski , “ Start ” (“ Le depart ”). In 1966, Leo received a prize at the Berlin Film Festival for Best Actor in the film Male-Female . In 2016, he was awarded the Honorary Golden Palm Branch .

Leo is married to French actress Bridgette Duviviere.
