Valery Leonidovich Olovarenko ( December 15, 1969 - April 9, 1993 ) - commander of a tank platoon of the tank battalion of the 149th Guards Motor Rifle Regiment of the 201st twice Red Banner Gatchinsky Motor Rifle Division in the city of Kulyab, Republic of Tajikistan , guard lieutenant . The first soldier of the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation .

Biography
Born December 15, 1969 in the family of a soldier. In 1991 he graduated from the Ulyanovsk Guards Higher Tank Command School. For further service, he was sent to the 149th Guards Motor Rifle Regiment ( 201st Motor Rifle Division ) as commander of a tank platoon.
Since May 1992, he participated in many peacekeeping operations to localize ethnic conflicts in the Republic of Tajikistan . As part of the combined battalion , he guarded the Nurek hydroelectric station , took part in the peacekeeping operation in the Tavil-Darya region, and carried out tasks to strengthen the units of the border troops of the Moscow border detachment on the Tajik-Afghan border.
He died on April 9, 1993 at section 15 of the border outpost of the Moscow border detachment.
The title of Hero of the Russian Federation to the Guard, Lieutenant Valery Leonidovich Olovarenko was posthumously awarded by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of July 3, 1993, No. 983.
He was buried in Cherkasy in Ukraine .
