Essei is a large fresh lake in the Krasnoyarsk Territory . It is located beyond the Arctic Circle in the Kotui river basin in the north of the Evenki region . Surface area - 238 km². On the lake is the village of the same name .

Geography
Lake Essay is located in the western part of the Essenes basin [1] . It has an oval shape. The shores are heavily indented by bays and bays. Five rivers flow into the lake ( Buordakh , Sordongnokh , Sigmoyan and others), and for one - Shikey Seen , the left tributary of Kotuy - it is the source. The water surface is covered with ice from October to June.
The lake is rich in fish, and wild deer , bears , foxes live in its environs.
History
For the first time the name of the lake is found on a map published by the Academy of Sciences in 1745, where it is called "Ezel". Later, in various literature, the name was changed from "Evseevsky" to "Jesse". In the 17th century, the vicinity of the lake was inhabited by the Tungus tribe of Vanyad, which disappeared from these places in the 18th century. After this, Yakut immigrants appeared on the banks of the Essenes, fleeing from high taxes from the Vilyui and Olenka basins . Later they became known as the Essenic Yakuts [2] .

According to the legends of the locals, near the mouth of the Shikai Seen lake has a second bottom. [3]
