The 3rd Kriegsmarine Submarine Flotilla is a division of the Third Reich Navy .

History

The Third Reich’s Submarine Fleet Third Fleet was the Los Flotilla, established on October 4, 1937 in Kiel under the command of Captain Lieutenant Hans Eckerman. The flotilla received its name in honor of the WWII submarine, Oberleutenant tsur Zee Johannes Los, who sank 76 ships with a total tonnage of 148,677 gross tons and 15 British ships sloop HMS Lavender with a displacement of 1,200 tons in 15 trips. The Los flotilla lasted until December 1939 , but was re-created in March 1941 as the 3rd flotilla based on Kiel, but was soon transferred to La Palis ( La Rochelle ). When in October 1944 the surviving submarines from La Rochelle went to bases in Norway, the third flotilla was disbanded.
