Geographical position
The distance by road to Odessa is 21 km, to Ovidiopol - 15 km.
History
The village was founded in 1804 as the German colony Gross Liebenthal ( German: Gross Liebenthal ). The encyclopedia of Brockhaus and Efron totaled 3,000 inhabitants in the colony, two evangelical Lutheran churches, 2 schools, a feldsher point, a steam mill and a brick-tiled-pottery-tiled factory operated in the colony.
In 1881 , a large meteorite fell near the colony, which got its name from it .
During the Great Patriotic War in 1941 - 1944, the village was under German-Romanian occupation .
Since 1957, Velikodolinskoe has the status of an urban-type settlement.
In 1989, the population was10 012 people [2] .
As of January 1, 2013, the population was 13,330 people [3] .
The two-letter code of car numbers - "VN", matches the codes of Odessa and Ovidiopol.
