Aegisthusos ( Greek: силаγισθος “goat power”) - in Greek mythology [1] was the son of Fiesta and his daughter Pelopia , cousin of Agamemnon .
Content
Origin
Fiesta believed that he was illegally stripped of the Mycenaean throne by his brother, Atreus . Two brothers constantly fought each other for power. Fiesta seduced his brother's wife Aeroport , for which Atreus killed the sons of Fiesta, and ordered them to cook the roast, which he served on the table, inviting Fiesta to stay. After Fiesta unknowingly ate the meat of the corpses of his own sons, he decided to avenge his brother for his atrocity and asked the oracle how best to do this. The oracle answered that the daughter of Fiesta - Pelopia should give birth to a son from him, and this son will kill Atreus.
Pelopia gave birth to Aegisthus from her father Fiesta, but she was ashamed of this incestuous act (according to another version, she was ashamed of being raped by an unknown person), so she abandoned her son, and he was found by shepherds who fed the boy goat ( ego ) milk [2] . Later Atreus, not knowing the origin of the child, sheltered Aegisthus and raised him as his own son.
History
When Aegisthus grew up, Atreus sent him to kill his own father - Fiesta, but he revealed to the young man his true origin, said that he was Aegisthus's grandfather and father at the same time, and then Aegisthus killed Atreus [3] when he made a sacrifice on the shore [4] . Aegisthus and his father seized the throne. Aegisthus and Fiesta jointly ruled the Mycenae , exiling the sons of Atreus - Agamemnon and Menelaus to Sparta , where the king of Tyndare gave his daughters to Clytemnestra and Helen .
Before his death, Tyndareus gave the throne to Menelaus, who helped Agamemnon to overthrow Aegisthus and Fiesta in Mycenae. After Agamemnon left Mycenae and went to the Trojan War , Aegisthus wanted to seduce his wife, Clytemnestra. But Agamemnon left one singer with Clytemnestra; while the singer was present in the chambers, Clytemnestra resisted Aegisthus. Then Aegisthus took the singer to a deserted island, and Clytemnestra was seduced.
Zeus sent Hermes to Aegisthus not to kill Agamemnon [5] . However, when Agamemnon returned after a ten-year war, Aegisthus helped Clytemnestra kill Agamemnon (and Cassander, whom he brought with him). Aegisthus's accomplices all died when the comrades of Agamemnon were killed [6] . Subsequently, Aegisthus and Clytemnestra ruled the Mycenae for seven years. Eight years later [7], the son of Agamemnon Orestes returned to Mycenae and killed Aegisthus [8] . Buried away from the Mycenaean city wall [9] .
The children of Aegisthus were Alet and Erigon .

Aegisthus is the protagonist of the tragedies of the ancient Greek authors Aeschylus “Agamemnon” and “Hoephora”, Sophocles “Electra”, Euripides “Electra”, Roman authors Livy Andronicus and the Action “Aegisthus”, Seneca “Agamemnon”.
There was a certain comedy (Alexis?) In which Orestes and Aegisthus left the scene as friends [10] .
