Regions of Finland
The region or region ( Fin. Maakunta , Swede. Landskap ) in Finland is a first-tier administrative unit . From January 1, 2011, Finland is divided into 19 regions. Each region is governed by a regional council.

History
Since the reform of Nicholas I in 1831, the first level of the administrative-territorial division in Finland was the province . In 2010, Finland was divided into 6 provinces. As a result of the management reform, they were transformed into 19 regions.
