Description
It is of great scientific value. The Jurassic deposits of the Volga stage come to the surface from the section. There is a large number of fossil fauna: vertebrae of ichthyosaurs and pliosaurs , shells of mollusks. Some tiers are below the reservoir level. The territory is prohibited construction work, excavation, collection of geological collections. Guided tours are organized by the Museum of Local Lore. The total area of 30 hectares.
Reasons for the creation of protected areas and its significance
Stratotype of Jurassic and Cretaceous sediments. Numerous finds of vertebrate and invertebrate fauna are found here. Since the days of Palassa and Lepekhin, it has been a place of pilgrimage for Russian and foreign geologists.

A steep bank 30–40 meters high, 3 km long from the village of Gorodishchi towards Ulyanovsk . Fossil remains of vertebrates and invertebrates.
