Alexandra Khokhlova was born on October 4, 1897 in Berlin . The daughter of Sergey Sergeyevich Botkin [4] , on the maternal side - the granddaughter of Pavel Tretyakov [5] She began acting in episodic roles in 1916 . She studied at the State School of Fine Arts ( VGIK ) in the film workshop directed by Lev Kuleshov , who soon became her husband.

Notable roles of Alexandra Khokhlova in the cinema are the roles of the Countess in the film “The Extraordinary Adventures of Mr. West in the Country of the Bolsheviks ” (1924) and the role of Dulcie in the film “The Great Comforter ” (1933).

For a long time, Alexandra Khokhlova taught at VGIK directing course (associate professor since 1939). Author of books and monographs on cinema: “Principles of film directing by L. Kuleshov”, “50 years in cinema”, “Articles. Materials ”- the last two together with Lev Kuleshov .

The wife of the director Lev Kuleshov. The first husband is an actor of the Moscow Art Theater and, subsequently, the famous theater director Konstantin Khokhlov .

Died on August 22, 1985. She was buried in Moscow at the Novodevichy Cemetery next to her husband - Lev Kuleshov and grandfather P. M. Tretyakov , founder of the Tretyakov Gallery .
