
Azadegan is a giant Iranian oil field located in the shahrestan of Deshte-Azadegan (Khuzestan) 80 km south-west of the city of Ahvaz . Opened in 1999 .
Azadegan is one of the three largest in the world after Al-Gawar and Burgan . Azadegan is located near the Iraqi border , its continuation is one of the largest deposits of Iraq - Majnun .
At the Azadegan field, there are 4 main oil fields: Saruk, Kajdomi, Gadwan and Fakhliyan.

Development
When developing the field, it is planned to drill 300 production wells. After that, oil production on Azadegan will reach 340 thousand barrels of oil per day.
Development by Iranian companies will begin in the spring of 2007. Azadegan is the largest of the open over the past 30 years in the territory not only of Iran , but also of other countries of the Near and Middle East .
The development project for this field is designed for 8 years and will be implemented in two stages. At the first stage, the daily volume of oil production will be 150 thousand barrels, and at the second stage - 260 thousand barrels (that is, it will grow by another 110 thousand barrels). The preliminary project cost is $ 2 billion. Over 5-7 years, 1,000 people will be employed at the facilities of this project.
To facilitate the development of the field, Azadegan was divided into 2 fields - North and South .
Stocks
The geological reserves of the field are estimated at 2.5 billion tons of oil, and the recoverable oil reserves at Azadegan are 9 billion barrels (about 1.2 billion tons).
North Azadegan
North Azadegan allocated to a separate site in 2006 ; the volume of its reserves is 950 million tons. According to the agreements reached, the Chinese oil company CNPC should take 100% of the investment in the development of the field.
South Azadegan
South Azadegan allocated to a separate site in 2006 . According to the agreements reached, the Chinese oil company CNPC should take on 90% of the investment in the development of the field, and in return receives a 70% stake in the property. Other partners are Iranian NIOC (20%) and Japanese INPEX (10%).
