Priaralye is the historical name of the region adjacent to the Aral Sea . For the first time this name began to be used by Russian geographers in the 18th century .

The Eastern Aral Sea region includes a number of regions of the Kyzylorda region of Kazakhstan : Aral , Kazalinsky , Karmakshinsky (sometimes also include Zhalagash and Syrdarya regions). The lower reaches of the Syr Darya River passes through the Eastern Aral Sea region; here is the Baikonur Cosmodrome .

Southern Aral Sea region is the Republic of Karakalpakstan in the north of Uzbekistan . Here is the delta of the Amu Darya River.

Northern Aral Sea region is the southern outskirts of the Aktobe region of Kazakhstan .
