Until April 2014, Podberez'e was the administrative center of the now-abolished Podberezsky rural settlement .

Along the entire western part of the village at a distance of about 2 km from the center passes the railway Chudovo- st. According to the villagers, the environmental situation in the area of ​​the settlement has recently begun to deteriorate, and an increase in the occurrence of cancer has been noted. There is a perception that this is due to the production of wood chip products at the local plant LLC "Flayderer." The smell of wood is often present in the air. Concerned with this, local residents regularly try to deal with this situation.

As a result of inspections conducted by the Novgorod Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's Office ^[5] , it was found that “the Company in 2010 violated the requirements of standards for allowable discharges of pollutants reflected in the permit for discharge of pollutants issued by the TU Rostechnadzor in the Novgorod region on 29.09.2009, according to a number of pollutants discharged into a untitled stream through issue No. 1, including suspended substances, the excess of VAT indicators of pollutants in wastewater discharge reached 2.8 times (VAT −5.55 mg / dmZ, fact −16.0 mg / dmZ), for ammonium nitrogen - 2.3 times (VAT - 1.5 mg / dmZ, fact - 3.5 mg / dmZ), for iron - in 3.6 times (VAT - 0.3 mg / dm3, Fact - 1.1 mg / dm3), for phenol - 2.5 times (VAT - 0.001 mg / dm3, fact - 0.0025 mg / dm3), for formaldehyde - 3.3 times (VAT - 0.03 mg / dm3, fact - 0.1 mg / dm3). "

By the decision of the Novgorod District Court of the Novgorod Region of February 6, 2009, B. B. Shumilkin refused to satisfy the claims against Flayderer LLC concerning the obligation to eliminate harmful emissions of the enterprise and the recovery of non-pecuniary damage. In 2011, Flayderer LLC carried out works on the technical re-equipment of local surface sewage treatment plants, installed and put into operation a sewage pumping station, a tangential sand trap, an after-treatment sorption unit SB-20.

In accordance with the “Expert opinion on the draft standards for permissible discharges of substances (VAT) and microorganisms entering with sewage” No. k-251-09 of May 22, 2009, Federal State Health Institute “Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Novgorod Region” of Rospotrebnadzor “technical re-equipment of existing the storm sewage treatment plant will allow to bring the parameters of sewage discharge to the normative ”.

By a decree dated August 17, 2011, the Novgorod Interdistrict Investigation Department of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Board of the Russian Federation for the Novgorod Region, B. B. Shumilkin, was denied initiation of a criminal case against Flyderer LLC on the fact of environmental pollution. The inspection of the Novgorod Interdistrict Investigation Department of the Investigative Board of the Investigative Board of Russia in the Novgorod Region established that “there is no negative impact of the company Flayderer on the health of the population living in the residential zone of Podberezye, there are no serious consequences”.

The inspections of the Novgorod Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's Office in 2011 found no negative impact of the production activity of Flyderer LLC on the life and health of the population in the Podberezsky rural settlement. According to expert opinions of the Federal State Health Institute "Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Novgorod Region" of Rospotrebnadzor in air samples. Podberezye substance content meets the requirements of GN 2.1.6.1338-03 "Maximum allowable concentrations (MPC) of pollutants in the atmospheric air of populated areas."

The appeal ruling of the Novgorod Regional Court of the Novgorod Region dated July 17, 2012 to the Novgorod Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor completely refused to satisfy the claims to Flayderer LLC for invalidating the permission to release harmful (polluting) substances into the atmospheric air and prohibiting pollutant emissions to the air substances of turpentine group.
