U-boat submarines

Upholder class submarines are a series of British diesel-electric submarines . The last type of diesel-electric submarines built in the UK, they were supposed to replace the obsolete submarines of the Oberon type , built back in the 1950s and 1960s and to serve together with nuclear submarines . However, the initial plans for the construction of 12 boats of the series were eventually reduced to four, built in 1987 - 1993 . Their service in the UK KVMF was short-lived - already in 1993-1994 , all of them were withdrawn from service. In 1998, all four boats were acquired by Canada , and after conversion, they went into operation in 2000-2004 under new names. As part of the Canadian Navy, they are usually designated as the type "Victoria" ( born Victoria class ). For 2014 , these four boats make up Canada’s entire submarine fleet.
