He was the eldest son of the Trebizond emperor Manuel I and his first wife, Anna Xilaloy, a Trebizond noblewoman. He became the next emperor after the death of his father. Also, as under Manuel I , during the reign of Andronicus II, Trebizond continued to develop as a shopping center. During the three years of Andronic's reign, the Trebizond Empire lost Sinop , conquered by his father. This allowed the Turks to build in the port of Sinop the best fleet on the Black Sea and threaten the trade of tradesund. Together with this loss, the Trapezund emperors also lost hope of the capture of Constantinople and stopped interfering in the affairs of Byzantium . After the death of Andronicus II, which came for unknown reasons in 1266 , the brother of Trebizond was inherited by his brother George the Great Comnenus .
