Geography
Located in the Gulf of Alaska , south of the Alaska Peninsula. The length of the island is 50 km.
History
It was here that on August 31, 1741, a sailor from the team of "St. Peter" ( Second Kamchatka Expedition ) Nikita Shumagin, whose name is named after the island, died of scurvy . First mapped in 1836 the Russian admiral Fedor Litke [1] .
