Merin is a castrated male domestic horse (castrated stallion). Traditionally, animals were valued for their calm disposition. Widely used in agriculture and equestrian sports. In addition to improving character, castration leads to the fact that geldings, to a lesser extent than stallions, increase the mass of the front of the hull, which is important in sports such as show jumping . Geldings are calmer than stallions, less aggressive towards other males, the presence of mares does not affect the stability of their work.

Geldings as war horses
Geldings were mainly popular as a classic steppe cavalry, because they can be in a group with other horses calmly, without a desire to mate, they are less pugnacious. These qualities are valued today, especially in large cattle farms, where work horses are usually in the herd and where the ability of animals to immediately begin work on a team is often important.
