Karun-3 ( Pers. کارون -۳ ) is a hydroelectric power station in the south-west of Iran , in the province of Khuzestan . It is named after the Karun River, in the upper reaches of which a dam is located. The Karun River is the deepest in Iran and has the highest elevation between the source and the mouth ( Khorramshahr ). The dam allows you to control the water level in the lower reaches of the river. The power plant has a capacity of 2280 MW and produces about 4137 million kWh of electricity per year.
