Biography
In 1961 he graduated from the Theater Department of the Lithuanian State Conservatory . Since 1961, he has been an actor in the Šiauliai Drama Theater , since 1962, the Kaunas Drama Theater , and since 1970, the Academic Drama Theater in Vilnius .
All-Union fame came to the actor after the release in 1966 of the film Vytautas Jalakevicius “ Nobody wanted to die .” In 1972, he played a major role in the historical drama of Balis Bratkauskas “Tadas Blinda”, dedicated to the national liberation movement of the Lithuanians against the imperial administration in the second half of the XIX century .
Soviet directors used the actor’s external data to create images of criminals and other negative characters: Filin in Nobody Wanted to Die (1966), Pirate George Merry in Treasure Island (1971), and the bandit in Dagger (1973), Charlie the Mad in Smok and the Kid (1976), Yuri Petrovich Borisov in the Bag of the Collector (1977).
The actor, probably, was more remembered by the Soviet cinema audience in the role of police colonel Konrad Ulf in the film directed by Roland Kalniньš “ Three days for reflection ” (1980), and also as a performer of the roles of medieval knights in costume and adventure films directed by Sergei Tarasov : “ Ballad of the Valiant Aivengo Knight ”(1983) and“ The Adventures of Quentin Dorward, Shooter of the Royal Guard ”(1988).
In 1993 - 1999, Vytautas Tomkus directed the Vaidilos Theater. Since 1999 he has been working at the Lithuanian National Drama Theater again.
