Pieta, Pieta (from Italian pietà “ pity ”) - an iconography of the scene of the Mourning of Christ by the Virgin Mary [1] with the image of the Mother of God with the dead Christ lying on her lap [2] . The difference from the “ Mourning ” scene is the absence of numerous additional secondary figures, as well as the fact that this scene is not narrative.
This iconographic type is often found in Western European art of the XIII-XVII centuries. Among the most famous: sculpture of Pieta (Michelangelo) ; paintings by Pieta Cosimo Tours , Pieta (painting by Titian) , Pieta (painting by Van Gogh) .

In Orthodoxy
In Orthodoxy, the iconographic composition Do Not Cry Me, Mati is known, representing Christ in the tomb, next to which is the Mother of God. One of the main differences between “Drinks” and “Do not Cry Mene, Mati”, according to experts, is in principle spiritual content [3] .
