Club career

The early years

From the age of six he studied at the Vorskla Sports School in Poltava. At the age of 12, on the advice of the first coach Alexander Gornostaev, he decided to try his hand at the Dnepropetrovsk sports boarding school. Ruslan passed the selection and ended up in the Dnepr double, later he got into the first team . In the Premier League he made his debut on November 7, 1999 in a home game against Kryvbas (1: 0). With the arrival of Dnipro, Evgeni Kucherevsky became a solid player in the foundation, winning the championship with the bronze team.

Dynamo (Kiev)

In the summer of 2005, Rotan moved to Kiev Dynamo . He immediately got a permanent place at the base. But the second season in the Kiev team was not the best in Ruslan's club career - Rotan lost his place at the base, received some very unpleasant injuries, had no constant playing practice and, as a result, left Dynamo, having played 50 matches for the team and won championship and two cups.

Dnipro

In the winter of the 2007/08 season, Rotan returned to Dnipro [1] . The first appearance in the "new old" team was accompanied by a standing ovation. After returning to his native club, he became the main midfielder of the team, and soon - its captain. He received the prize "For the best goal of 2012 in the championship of Ukraine" from the program "Pro Football" [2] . On March 1, 2014, in the match against Sevastopol , Rotan held his 300th match in the Ukrainian championship, including the 250th match for Dnipro [3] .

In 2015, with the Dnipropetrovsk team, he reached the final of the UEFA Europa League . In the 44th minute of the final match, Rotan scored a goal from the free-kick, but Dnipro lost 2–3. He entered the symbolic team of the tournament [4] .

In August of that year, after numerous rumors about his departure from Dnipro, he signed a new contract with the Dnipropetrovsk club according to the 2 + 1 scheme [7] .

July 20, 2016, having entered the field in a match with Volyn, he became the champion in the number of official matches held for Dnipro (416), beating Roman Schneiderman [8] .

The match with Zvezda , which took place on May 7, 2016, became Ruslan’s 350th match in the Ukrainian Championship, including the 300th for Dnipro [9] .

In the summer of 2017, like almost all players, left Dnipro.

Slavia (Prague)

Return to Dynamo

January 12, 2018 Ruslan Rotan became a player of Dynamo Kyiv , signing a contract until the end of the 2017/18 season [11] . In the summer of 2018, he left the team [12] .

Team Career

He made his debut in the national team, under the leadership of Leonid Buryak , on February 12, 2003 in the match Turkey - Ukraine (0: 0). In the first qualifying game for the 2006 World Cup with Kazakhstan, Ruslan’s goal in compensated time brought the Ukrainian team a major victory. And in the last game of the selection by an exact blow, Ruslan brought a draw in an away match with Georgia , and it was this draw that brought Ukraine to the world Cup.

After the completion of his career, Andriy Shevchenko became the vice-captain of the Ukrainian team, and after leaving the team Anatoly Tymoshchuk became the captain. March 27, 2018 - a friendly match against the Japanese national team (2: 1) became the hundredth for Rotan in a Ukrainian national team shirt; this achievement made him the third footballer in the history of the national team to whom this result was submitted. [13] .
