Abaran ( Spanish: Abarán ) - a city and municipality in Spain , part of the province of Murcia as part of the autonomous community of Murcia . The municipality is part of the district (mosquito) Vega Alta del Segura . It covers an area of 115.38 km². The population is 12,974 people (as of 2010 ). The distance to the provincial capital is 40 km. Located on the banks of the Segura River.

In the city, archaeological finds dating back to the Bronze Age were discovered. First mentioned in 1281 . The city has the largest water pumping station operating in Europe, around which a city park has been created. Tourist attractions include San Pablo Church.
The patron saint of the city is St. Cosme and San Damian and la Virgen del Oro.
