The medal “For participation in the counter-terrorism operation” is the departmental award of the FSB of Russia. It was established by order of the FSB of Russia No. 522 of October 4, 2001 .

Award Rules
The medal is awarded to military personnel and FSB officers for participating in the conduct or provision of the counter-terrorism operation . The Director of the FSB may award a medal to other citizens for actively assisting security agencies in conducting the counter-terrorism operation.
According to the Regulation, the medal “For participation in the counter-terrorism operation” is awarded to:
- for conscientious performance of official duties while in the area of the counter-terrorism operation in the North Caucasus region for at least seven months, including the aggregate stay time;
- regardless of the terms of personal participation in counter-terrorism operations for merits in conducting the counter-terrorism operation, which had a significant positive impact on the effectiveness of the counter-terrorism operation.
Wear Rules
The medal is worn on the left side of the chest and is located in front of the medal (ribbon of the medal) of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation “For Combat Commonwealth” .
Medal Description
It is made of brass . Has a diameter of 32 mm and a convex rim on both sides. On the front side of the coin is an image of a round shield with a relief double-headed eagle . The shield field is covered with red enamel . On the reverse side of the coin there is an inscription: “Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation”.
