Geography
The district is located in the eastern part of the region. Its area is 642.66 sq. Km [8] .. Of the total area, the forested area is 79 sq. Km, agricultural land - 340 sq. Km. and reservoirs - 6.57 sq. km. The area of the city is 16.25 sq. Km.
The district borders on the Chernyakhovsky district in the west, Ozyorsk - in the south, Nesterovsky - in the southeast, Krasnoznamensky and Nemansky - in the north.
Most of the territory of the district is a lowland plain with a height of 0 to 40 m above sea level. The southern and central part is elevated and represents a watershed. Hills form moraine massifs and ridges separated by closed depressions. Forests, swamps and shrubs occupy 12.6% of the territory. The largest forest is located in the northwest of the county. The remaining forests are scattered in small sections along ravines, gullies, and floodplains. Often there are lakes and artificial reservoirs. A large number of rivers belonging to the Pregol river basin ( Pissa , Krasnaya , Russkaya , Angrapa ).
The climate is transitional from marine to temperate continental. Mild winters, moderately warm summers. January temperature is from -2 ° C to -4.4 ° C, July temperature is from + 16 ° C to + 18 ° C. Maximum precipitation falls in August, minimum - in March-April.

History
The modern Gusevsky urban district is completely located on part of the territory of one of the historical regions of ancient Prussia named after Nadrovia .
It was founded on September 7, 1946 as Gumbinnensky as part of the Konigsberg region . September 7, 1946 renamed Gusevsky district of the Kaliningrad region .
Since November 12, 2004, in accordance with the Law of the Kaliningrad Region No. 445 of November 5, 2004, the district is endowed with the status of a city district ( Gusevsky city district ).
On June 30, 2008, in accordance with the law of the Kaliningrad region No. 255 [18], the municipality Gusevsky City District was granted the status of a municipal district ( Gusevsky municipal district ).
Since 2014, Gusevsky urban district [19] .

Economics
Salt deposits.
As of January 1, 2015, the enterprises of the okrug (without small business) shipped goods of their own production, performed works and services worth 5816.71 million rubles, including enterprises of manufacturing industries - 4118.28 million rubles producing and distributing electricity and gas. water - by 219.3 million rubles.
Industry
In 2011, the volume of industrial production amounted to 2.4 billion rubles, including processing industries 2.1 billion rubles, the production and distribution of heat, gas and water - 0.3 billion rubles.
Agriculture
The cultivated area of 2011 amounted to 11766 hectares. At the end of 2011, 9,200 tons of rapeseed and 17,000 tons of grain were produced. Milk production in 2011 amounted to 6340 tons, meat production - 6600 tons.
