Latgale suburb ( Latvian. Latgales priekšpilsēta ; until 1991 - Moscow region) - the largest population district of Riga (about 190 thousand people), located in the south-east of the city. Modern multi-storey buildings prevail, however, in the northern part the historical buildings of the XIX century have been preserved. The railway line to Daugavpils passes through the territory of the district; here is the large railway sorting station Shkirotava . Immediately beyond the eastern border of the region is the CHPP-2 power plant.
