Yelets district is an administrative-territorial unit ( district ) and a municipality ( municipal district ) in the west of the central part of the Lipetsk region of Russia .

Content
Geography
Area 1185 km². The area borders on the Krasninsky , Stanovlyansky , Izmalkovsky , Dolgorukovsky , Zadonsky districts of the Lipetsk region .
The main rivers are Bystray Pine , Vorgol , Voronets , Elchik , Palna , Panikovets .
History
The district was formed on July 10, 1928 as part of the Central Black Earth Region (CCO) (until 1930 it was part of the Yelets okrug ). August 20, 1930 Yelets allocated to the city of regional subordination. After the separation of the Central Black Sea District on December 31, 1934 it became part of the Voronezh Region , and on September 27, 1937 - in the newly formed Oryol Region . After the formation on January 6, 1954, the Lipetsk region was included in its composition.
