Carabobo

Carabobo ( Spanish: Carabobo ) is one of the 23 states of Venezuela , located in the north of the country about 2 hours drive from Caracas . The administrative center of the state is the city of Valencia , which is the main industrial center of the country. The state covers an area of ​​4,650 km² and as of 2011 the population is 2,245,744 people.

History

On June 24, 1821, at the eponymous settlement of Carabobo, which is a hundred kilometers west of Caracas, a battle took place, which became a decisive battle in the war for the independence of Venezuela from Spain . It ended with the victory of the liberation army of volunteers led by Simon Bolivar . Venezuela, which proclaimed independence in 1811 , was completely liberated from colonial dependence by November 1824 .

Municipalities consist of one or more civil parishes. Carabobo has a total of 38 parishes.

Terrain and soil

About 75% of the region is covered by mountains, which form part of the coast of Venezuela. The highest peaks are found in the north and west of the state and south of Lake Valencia . Kobalongo peak or Kaobal peak is the highest point of the state, at 1990 meters above sea level.

There is a central lowland plain around Lake Valencia and to the south where Lyanos Venezuela begins.

There are a large number of anticlines, synclines, diaclases, fractures and faults . One of the most important is one of Victoria, south of Valencia. This area has moderate tectonic activity.

Near Puerto Cabello there is a group of small Islands . The main ones are Isla Larga, Isla Santo Domingo, Alcatraz Island and Isla del Rey. Isla Larga is the largest and 1855 meters long. It is part of the San Esteban National Park.

There are also several islands on Lake Valencia. Some others have disappeared after rising Sea Levels since the 1970s. Isla del Berro. ("Donkey Island") is the largest island of the lake.

Carabobo soils are fertile. Sulfide soils (primarily fluids and irrigators) predominate. There are also vertical threats with Westert's suborders.
