At the 1904 Games in St. Louis, Valentine participated in four disciplines. He finished seventh in the 4-mile team race, but in terms of points, his team took first place and won gold medals. In the 800 m race, he took second place, winning another silver award. In the 1500 m race, Valentine took seventh position, and in the 400 m race between 7th and 12th.
