Barbar Ann Mikulski ( eng. Barbara Ann Mikulski ; born July 20, 1936 ) is an American politician and public figure, US Senator from Maryland , a member of the Democratic Party .

Biography
From a family of Polish origin. She graduated from the Catholic University of Mount St. Agnes College ( 1974 ) and the University of Maryland in Baltimore ( 1981 ). In 1972-1977 - a member of the City Council of Baltimore . In 1974, she lost the US Senate elections . In 1976, she was elected to the US House of Representatives , receiving 76% of the vote.
In 1986, she was elected to the US Senate and re-elected in 1992, 1998, 2004, and 2010. She headed the Senate Appropriations Committee in 2012–2015. After the Republican majority was seized by the Republicans, she resigned as chairman.
