History

Submarines of the Jin class were developed in China to replace the outdated and relatively unreliable strategic submarine of class 092 Xia , created on the basis of the first Chinese nuclear submarines of Project 091 Han . The construction of the lead ship was started in 1999 , the completion of the entire series is planned for 2010 .

Armament

According to U.S. intelligence, submarines of type 094 carry 12 ballistic missiles of the Jiulan-2 (JL-2) type with a range of 8-12 thousand km. These missiles are an underwater version of the latest Chinese ground-based strategic missiles DF-31 . Russian experts believe that the JL-2 is a separate development: the three-stage DF-31 is too large to accommodate a missile submarine cruiser.

In the 2010 Pentagon annual report, it was reported that the JL-2 (Ju-2) missile tests were unsuccessful. [2] The missile failed the final series of tests, and therefore it is difficult to predict the date of commissioning of Project 094 boats with JL-2. [2]

Representatives

The first submarine went into operation in 2004 and received tail number 409. It is assumed that at least two Jin class submarines are operational. According to Chinese media, in March 2010 the 6th submarine of this type was launched [3]

Current status

The new Chinese strategic nuclear missile submarine cruiser (SSBN) was first photographed using the Google Earth geo-interface (message from the World Tribune). The submarine was photographed by the private satellite Quickbird at the end of 2006 . According to American experts, the strategic nuclear-powered ship belongs to the class 094 Jin ("Jin"). The boat was photographed by a satellite during her stay at the base of Xiaopingdao near Dalian ( Yellow Sea ).

According to the US Navy Intelligence Agency, in 2014, Jin-type submarines will begin to go on combat patrols [4] .
