Mary Stewart ( born Mary Stewart ; September 17, 1916 - May 10, 2014 ) is an English novelist, best known for her trilogy about Merlin , in which she was able to combine the features of a historical novel and fantasy -style history.

Biography
Born in Sunderland in the family of a priest. In 1939, she graduated from Dareham University and received the specialty of an English teacher. In 1941-1945, she taught at the University of Dareham , where she met her husband, Professor of Geology Frederick Henry Stuart. In 1945 they got married. At the insistence of her husband, Mary sent to the publishing house the manuscript of her first novel, “Madame, will you speak?”, Which was published in 1954. In 1956, Frederick Stewart received a teaching position in Edinburgh and moved there with his wife. Spouses Stuart traveled a lot, which gave Mary material for several novels, which take place abroad: in France, Greece, and other countries.
In 2001, Frederick passed away. After his death, the writer lived in Edinburgh.
