History
According to Jadzotto, the play is a reconstruction based on a fragment from the music of Tomaso Albinoni , which he found in 1945 on the ruins of the Saxon Land Library destroyed during the bombing of Dresden . Remo Gadzotto published in 1945 the first scientific biography of Albinoni, who worked in Germany in the 1720s. The found fragment, according to the introduction of Adzio to the first edition of Adagio, contained a bass part and two fragments of the part of the first violin with a total duration of six measures. The first publication of the play was entirely entitled: Remo Gadzotto. Adagio in G minor for strings and organ based on two fragments of the theme and digital bass by Tomaso Albinoni ( Italian: Remo Giazotto: adagio in sol minore per archi e organo su due spunti tematici e su un basso numerato di Tomaso Albinoni ).
The play, from the point of view of criticism, is stylistically different from the undoubted works of Baroque in general and Albinoni in particular. In 1998, Wulf Dieter Lugert, a well-known musicologist and music teacher, professor at the University of Luneburg, in collaboration with Volker Schütz, published in the journal Praxis des Musikunterrichts a review of Adagio’s authorship problem, which includes fragments of letters from the Saxon State Library stating that such a musical fragment is from Albinoni’s heritage is absent in the library collection and has never been discovered in it, so the composition as a whole is an unconditional hoax by Jazzotto [1] . The point of view on Adagio Albinoni as a more or less original composition by Gadzotto is reflected, in particular, in the popular Hutchinson Encyclopedia [2] , in the reference of the record company “ Naxos ” [3] , information material of the famous baroque music magazine “Goldberg Magazine” [4] and other sources.
Adagio - one of the most performed musical works of the second half of the XX century, has been used repeatedly in films. Thanks to use by guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen at Icarus Dream Suite Op. 4 (1984) played a significant role in the formation of modern neoclassical metal .
