Club career
At the age of 14, Lucho began playing for Hurricane . In 2002, he moved to River Plate , and in 2004, his club won the championship in Argentina .
His performance for the River impressed Porto breeders, and in 2005 he moved to Portugal. Porto paid 3.6 million euros for half the rights to the player. In November 2006, he signed an improved contract until 2011, and in August 2007, Porto paid 6.65 million euros to obtain all rights to the player. At the club, Gonzalez became the team captain and was known as El Commandante due to his leadership and team play skills.
In June 2009, Porto announced the sale of Lucio González to Olympic Marseille for 18 million euros, with the possibility of increasing to 24 million depending on the player’s game. In June 2011, Lucio said he wanted to leave Olympic. After that, information appeared that the Spanish “Malaga” wants to see the player in its ranks and is offering 12 million euros for its transfer.
In the winter transfer window of 2012, Lucho moved to Porto, for which he had the right to play in the Europa League , since he was “played” for the Marseille Olympic only in the Champions League .
