History
The history of Magnitogorsk Airport dates back to August 15, 1930. On that day, the Zeleny Pole landing site began operations on the left bank of the city, when the pilot of the Sverdlovsk detachment Pichugov S.G. (according to several other sources F.N. Kanonenko) opened the Sverdlovsk-Chelyabinsk-Magnitogorsk air line using the Junkers F-13 airplane. The first staff of the airline was small. It consisted of only 5 people. In 1932, a 2-storey building was built to accommodate airport services. The material base of the aviation services was insufficient and, therefore, only mail flights to Moscow and Sverdlovsk were carried out. Initially, Magnitogorsk had the only U-2 aircraft leased by a metallurgical plant. Regular passenger traffic begins on March 6, 1933 with the opening of the Sverdlovsk – Magnitogorsk route on the Stal-2 four-seater passenger plane from Sverdlovsk.
