Founded in 1945 . In July 1990, was liquidated.
In the first season of Oberliga 1949/50, a team called ZSG Horch Zwickau, as a result of a controversial victory in the last game of the season over its rival Dresden-Friedrichstadt , became the champion of the GDR. Until the 1982/83 season, the club continuously played in the Oberlig. The team was very successful under the names "Motor Zwickau" and "Sachsenring Zwickau" played in the tournaments of the CSTP Cup.
The club’s biggest international achievement was in the 1975/76 season. The team entered the semifinals of the UEFA Cup Winners Cup . Sachsenring won the Athenian Panathinaikos (0: 0, 2: 0), Fiorentina (0: 1, 1: 0/6: 5 penalty) and Celtic Glasgow (1: 1, 1: 0), but lost winner of the Anderlecht Cup (0: 3, 0: 2).
Already in the 1960s, Motor Zwickau twice took part in the Cup Winners' Cup . The 1963/64 team reached the 1/8 finals (“ MTK Hungaria ” Budapest , 0: 2, 1: 0), 1967/68 she lost ( “Torpedo” Moscow , 0: 0, 0: 1).
