Hexi [1] ( Chinese Ex . 河西走廊 , Pinyin : Hexi Zoulang , Pall .: Hexi Zoulan , i.e., “Corridor West of the Yellow River ”), Gansu Corridor [2] - mountain pass connecting the Xinjiang-Uygur Autonomous Region People's Republic of China with its central provinces [3] . It is an ancient oasis formed by a chain of river valleys and stretching for about 1000 km [3] north-west from central Gansu (that is, from the Huang He basin) along the northeastern foothills of the Qilyanshan (Nanshan) mountain range. Limited to the north by Beishan and Longshoushan mountains . Width is from 20 to 100 km, height is from 800 m. (In the west) to 1500 m (in the east). The main route connecting the eastern and northwestern regions of China. The existence of oases in this narrow strip (width from 20 to 100 km) is due to the rivers flowing from the mountains and then lost in the Alashan desert (south-western part of the Gobi ). The largest oases are: Uwei , Zhangye , Yumen , Ansi .
