History
The club was founded on September 7, 1913 under the name Centro Sportivo Floriano Peixoto ("Centro Sportivo Floriano Peixoto"). The modern name was in 1918.
By the number of champion titles, the SSA ranks first in its state. The team achieved the greatest success in 1999 , reaching the final of the last CONMEBALL Cup . The tournament by that time had completely lost its attractiveness with the strongest teams in South America and clubs from regional leagues participated in it, in particular from Brazil. In the 1999 Northeast Brazil Championship, the SSA reached the semi-finals, but much more famous and strong teams - Bahia , Vitoria from Salvador and Sport Recife refused to go to CONMEBOL Cup. Therefore, she was given just the SSA. As a result, the club from Maceio reached the final of the tournament, where it lost to Argentinean Talleyz from Cordoba .
From 2016 to 2018, Maceio SSA made a historic breakthrough from Serie D to Serie A , seeking a promotion in the division for three years in a row. Except for the Joao Havelange Cup in 2000 , in which 116 clubs from all divisions were admitted, the SSA in 2019 will return to the elite after 32 years.
KRB vs. SSA
The most implacable rival of the SSA is the KRB club (as of 2017, the 30-time state champion). Statistics of meetings in the “Clasico Crowds” ( Clássico das Multidões ): 503 matches, 191 victories against the KRB, 161 draws, 151 victories against the SSA. The goal difference is 703: 622 in favor of CRB.
Stadium
The King Pele Stadium, which is used by the SSA and the KRB, was opened on October 25, 1970 with a match between the Alagoas state team and the Santos club, which Pele played for.
The stadium seats 25 thousand spectators and is used by the SSA for the most important meetings.
