5th Air Army (5th VA) - the air army of the Red Army as part of the Armed Forces of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War . Formed on June 6, 1942 by the order of the NGO on June 3, 1942 on the basis of the Air Force of the North Caucasus Front [1] .

Formation
Formed in June 1942 in accordance with the order of the NPO of the USSR dated 06.06.1942 from the units and formations of the Air Force of the Crimean Front , the Air Force of the 44th, 47th, 51st and Primorye armies of the North Caucasus Front , as well as the 15th th strike fighter air group.

Armament
The 5th Air Army was supposed to support their actions. Four aviation corps (1st bomber, 1st assault, 4th and 7th fighter), 312nd night light bomber air division and 511th separate reconnaissance air regiment of the air army as of January 1, 1944 had 702 operational aircraft .

Affiliation
From the moment of its formation, the army was part of the North Caucasus Front and supported the ground forces in the Battle of the Caucasus .
