Sverdlovsk Art College

The school was founded in 1902 . He is the successor to the Yekaterinburg school of art and industry, based on handicrafts: stone-cutting, jewelry, and lapidary.

As Ernst Neizvestny wrote, the school was created with the financial support of his grandfather, an industrialist and philanthropist. He, here for teaching, was invited to graduate from the Baron Stieglitz Art School , later a famous Soviet sculptor - Theodor Zalkaln . ^[one]

Sadri Akhun, his pupil, recalled his studies at the school. “ With a pneumatic hammer in my hands, bathing in sparks of showered marble, awakening a sleeping stone, I devoted myself to sculpture forever and irrevocably ” ^[2]

In 1987, received the name of Ivan Dmitrievich Shadr .

• Zalkaln, Theodor Eduardovich ( 1876 - 1972 ) - Latvian and Soviet sculptor, Academician of the Academy of Arts of the USSR , People's Artist of the USSR , Hero of Socialist Labor . He taught at the School from 1903 to 1907 .
