Andrei Aleksandrovich Shumkov (born January 23, 1956 , Leningrad ) is a Russian genealogist and editor. Since February 1997, an employee of the genealogical publishing house VIRD, in 1998-2007, director and editor-in-chief. Since July 22, 2008 the chief editor of the publishing house “Old Basmannaya” (Moscow).

Biography
Born into a family of restorers; his father came from a family of ordinary Don Cossacks of the Fedoseyevskaya stanitsa. In 1974 he graduated from the B.V. Johanson Secondary Art School at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. Repin . He worked as a graphic designer, stage artist and painter in the decoration shop at the Pushkin Theater , then as a stage mounter at other theaters in Leningrad, since 1983 as an operator of gas boilers. From 1986 - employee of the cooperative "Fantasia" (until 1992 ), where he organized and headed the sewing workshop.
Genealogy began with the study of the history of the Rurikovich family, limiting himself subsequently to the Smolensk and Yaroslavl princes. At the same time he conducted genealogical research about the nobles of the Pskov province and the Region of the Don Cossacks . In May 1990, he was admitted to the Historical and Genealogical Society in Moscow (full member); in September of the same year - to the Russian Genealogical Society. Now - a free consultant in the field of historical genealogical research.
