Since childhood, considered one of the most promising players in Slovakia, he made his debut in Slovan at the age of 16, and six months later he moved to Italy. Gamshik spent two full-fledged seasons in Serie B for Brescia . In the second of them, the midfielder showed himself brightly and attracted the attention of scouts of many European clubs. As a result, Gamshik moved to Napoli, becoming at that time the most expensive acquisition of the club after Diego Maradona . Slovak quickly became one of the leaders of the Neapolitans and the favorite of fans, remaining in the team despite a lot of offers from European top clubs. In 2013, Gamshik became the captain of Napoli.
At the age of 18, Gamšik made his debut in the Slovak national team, he soon became a base player, and in 2009 - the team captain. It was he who brought the national team to the field in the matches of the 2010 World Cup . In October 2018, he became the champion of the Slovak national team in matches - 108 games.
The early years
Marek Gamšik was born on July 27, 1987 in the Czechoslovak city of Banska Bystrica in the family of Richard Gamshik and his wife Renata . Marek's parents at the time of his birth were only 18 years old. Richard Gamshik was a professional footballer and played for the local Dukla , Renata - a handball player, a member of the Czech national handball team [4] . Marek has a younger sister Michaela, also a handball player who was forced to retire due to heart problems [4] .
Before birth, his grandfather bought Marek boots [5] . When he was four years old, his father brought him to the Yupi Podlavice football club. At the age of five, Gamshik became the best player in the children's tournament. Most often, Marek had to play with older players, but even among them he stood out a lot. He was regularly recognized as the best player and often scored. In 1997, Marek and his team won the tournament in Germany : his team scored 18 goals and did not miss a single one, and 6 goals were on the account of Gamshik, who became the top scorer of the tournament. In 1998, the UPI team took 3rd place in the tournament in Genoa . In the autumn of that year, Gamshik scored 16 goals against the team from the village of Dolna Strekhova in the match of the championship of the Bansko Bystrica Region , and this record has not been broken so far [5] . In the 1998/99 season, Marek chalked up 111 goals in 38 games [6] .
The outstanding abilities of Gamshik interested representatives of the Prague Sparta . The 14-year-old Marek easily passed the test. The transition could take place only if at least one Marek’s parent worked in Prague, but this did not happen before the set date, and Gamshik did not join the Czech club [6] . A few weeks later, Marek still changed the club and moved to Slovan from Bratislava [5] .
Club career
Slovan
Marek got into Slovan thanks to the connections of his grandfather. He confidently went through three shows, and the head coach of the Slovan youth team Igor Bobik took him to the team. However, Gamshik’s transition was complicated by the fact that his former Yupi team began to ask Slovan for money for his transition. According to the law, Slovan was obliged to pay compensation in the amount of 125 thousand Slovak crowns , but the club was in a difficult financial situation, and Marek’s father paid the compensation. He sold his car Škoda Felicia , borrowed money from friends and paid his son to the former club. On August 6, 2002, after all the proceedings, Marek Gamshik officially joined Slovan [7] .
The first days in the new club were quite difficult. Marek was only 15 years old, and he was in a strange city for himself, completely alone. However, Gamshik quickly got used to it and after a month of his performances received a call to the junior team of Slovakia . As part of the “blue”, he won the championships among juniors and youth. Prior to this, Slovan succeeded similarly 14 years ago when Peter Dubovsky played for their youth squad [7] .
On July 24, 2004, at the age of 16 years and 362 days, Marek Gamšik made his debut for the main team of Slovan in the match of the second division of Slovakia against the Zemplin club from Michalovce [5] . Even the president of Slovakia, Ivan Gasparovic, attended the debut match of Gamshik [7] . And on August 7, Marek scored the first goal for his club in a match with Tatran [8] .
Back in October 2003 , speaking for the youth team of Slovakia , Marek attracted the attention of the representative of the Italian “ Brescia ” Mauricio Mikelli. The Italians invited the Gamshik family and his trainer, Juraj Wenglos, to their home and introduced them to the house, school and training base [9] . Soon the contract was signed. Under the contract, Gamshik became a Brescia player in the summer of 2005 , when he was 18 years old. However, changes were made to Italian law, and Marek was able to immediately go to his new club. In November, Gamshik left his homeland and moved to Italy [5] . For the player, “Brescia” paid only 60 thousand euros [10] .
Brescia
In the new club, Marek initially played for the junior team. At first, the Italians did not even know how to spell his last name, but soon Gamshik became one of the best players in the team, and an article about a young midfielder appeared in the newspaper Corriere dello Sport [9] .
On March 20, 2005, in a Serie A match with Chievo , Marek Gamshik made his debut for the main team of his club. The Slovak, who at that time was only 17 years old and 236 days [9] , entered the field in the 65th minute, but could not help his club, and Brescia lost the match with a score of 1: 3 [11] . Thus, Gamshik became just the third Slovak who played in Serie A, after Milos Glonek and Vratislav Greshko [9] . This match was the only one for Gamshik in his first season at the adult level. Brescia finished the championship in the last but one place and flew to Serie B.
The next season, Marek, who changed his number to 17th, began to appear much more often at the core of his team. January 11, 2006 Marek scored his first goal for Brescia. This happened in the second leg of the 1/8 finals of the Italian Cup with Milan , which ended in the defeat of Brescia 3-4 [12] . After this match, Brescia flew out of the Cup. The team also held the championship unsuccessfully and took only 10th place. In total, in his second season, Marek played in 28 games (24 in Serie B and 4 in the Italian Cup), in which he scored 1 goal.
Marek began his third season in Italy as a base player. On September 19, 2006, in a match with Treviso , Marek brought victory to his team, realizing a penalty on the sixth added minute of the match [13] . In the second leg of the 1/8 Cup of Italy, Marek again hit the goal of Milan [14] , but this did not save his team, which lost both games. In the 16th round of Series B, Brescia tied 1-1 with the La Spezia [15] , and this match was for the Slovak 50th in the Italian club. In November, scouts from Liverpool , CSKA Moscow and Shakhtar Donetsk came to the Brescia match against Mantova to watch the Slovak midfielder in action [16] . Soon, Chelsea and Manchester United were added to the list of clubs interested in Gamshik [17] . “Brescia” finished the championship in 6th place and again failed to return to Serie A, after which it became clear that next season Marek will go on promotion. In the summer, only Donetsk Shakhtar [18] and Napoli showed interest in Marek, who entered Serie A after a six-year crisis. As a result, Marek signed a contract with a club from Naples for a period of 5 years [19] , the transfer amount was 5.5 million euros [10] . Marek scored his last goal for Brescia in the match of the 40th round with Vicenza [20] , and spent his last match in the match of the last 42nd round with Cesena [21] . In total, as part of Brescia, Gamshik held 74 matches in which he scored 12 goals.
Napoli
Marek, who again took the 17th number, became the second most expensive player in the history of the Neapolitan club after Diego Maradona [22] . For his new club, Marek made his debut on August 15, 2007 in the first round match of the Italian Cup with Cesena . The game ended in victory for the Neapolitans with a score of 4: 0, and Marek himself scored a goal and gave an assist [23] . A few days later, Marek made his debut for Napoli in the Serie A match. The debut was not the most successful, since Napoli lost to Cagliari in their field with a score of 0: 2 [24] . And on September 16, in the match of the 3rd round against Sampdoria , Marek scored his first goal in Serie A and brought victory to his club [25] . After several appearances for the new club, the young Slovak again became interested in the management of Manchester United , which, according to various sources, was ready to offer for it from 16 [26] to 18 million euros [27] . At the beginning of 2008, rumors appeared about Marek’s possible transfer to Juventus [28] , but Napoli general manager Pierpaolo Marino denied this information [29] . In the Italian Cup, “Napoli” reached the stage of 1/8 final, in which he was knocked out by the Roman “ Lazio ”. To keep the Slovak in the club, the club management already in April extended the contract with Marek until 2013 [30] . Under the new contract, Gamshik began to receive 1 million euros per year, becoming one of the highest paid players on the team [31] . After returning, the little donkeys finished their first season in Serie A in 8th place, which allowed them to get into the Intertoto Cup . Marek himself took part in 37 matches and scored 9 goals, having spent the most matches and scoring the most goals among all club players [32] . At the end of the season, Chelsea’s management was ready to pay more than 20 million euros for Gamshik, but there were no concrete proposals [33] .
At the beginning of next season, Marek finally made his European debut. This happened on July 20, 2008 in the first match of the third round of the Intertoto Cup with the Greek “ Panionios ”, which ended with a minimum victory for the Italian club. And in the second leg, Marek scored his first goal in the European arena, which turned out to be the only one in the match [34] . The victory over the Greek club allowed Napoli to get into the UEFA Cup . On August 14, in a guest match with the Albanian club Vlazniya , which ended in a 3-0 victory by Neapolitans, Gamshik made his debut in the second most important European club tournament [35] . Exactly two weeks later, in the second leg, which ended in an even more devastating victory for Napoli with a score of 5-0, Marek scored his first goal in the UEFA Cup [36] . This victory was the largest in the history of the club in the European arena [37] . But in the next round, Napoli lost to the Lisbon Benfica in the sum of two meetings and flew out of the cup. In the match of the 7th round of Series A , Napoli beat Juventus in their field. In the course of the meeting, the Neapolitans lost 0-1, but thanks to the goals of Gamshik and Esekiel Lavessi managed to win a strong-willed victory [38] . After this match, a club from Naples headed the standings for the first time since Diego Maradona played for the club [39] . In January 2009, there were rumors that Inter Milan was ready to pay 40 million euros for the Slovak player [40] , or exchange it for Esteban Cambiasso and Julio Ricardo Cruz , but there was no official confirmation of this [41] . Soon Gamshik was recognized as the best young player in Italy last year. In the vote, he went around Mario Balotelli and Sebastian Dzhovinko [42] . Marek was the first foreigner to receive this award. [32] In the match of the 19th round with Chievo , Marek received a red card in the 55th minute of the match for talking with the judge [43] . For this removal, the Italian Football Federation disqualified Slovakia for 2 matches and fined 13 thousand euros [44] . The following month, Marek took second place in the survey for the title of best football player in Slovakia in 2008, losing only to Martin Skrtel [45] . Soon, Bayern Munich showed interest in Marek and his teammate Esekiel Lavessi, but the Napoli leadership said they would not sell their players [46] . By the summer, rumors reappeared that Inter was ready to offer £ 12 million for the Slovak, plus Honduran striker David Suaso , but no concrete proposals were forthcoming [47] . Such interest from the grandees of European football was aroused by the stable game of Gamshik in Serie A. Despite the fact that his club took only 12th place, Gamshik, who played in 32 games, scored 9 goals, again becoming the team's top scorer.
The next season, Gamshik and his team spent without European cups, which allowed them to focus on the championship games. Despite this, the start of the Napoli season was not very successful, gaining only 15 points in the first ten matches, but in the 11th round match in Turin with a score of 3: 2 an important victory was won over Juventus. During the match, the Neapolitans lost 2-0, but in the last 30 minutes they scored 3 goals, 2 of which were on the account of the Slovak midfielder [48] . After the match, Gamshik said the following:
We are very happy about this victory. During the break, the coach said that we were playing well, and we managed to turn the course of the meeting in our favor in the second half. The mentor does a lot for the team and instills in us a true spirit of struggle. We wanted to win this match ... I like our scheme, but we must continue to work on ourselves. Now you need to stay on the ground and think about the upcoming fights. I dedicate my goals to my girlfriend, who will soon give me a son [49] |
Immediately after the match, there were reports that the midfielder would soon join the Turin club. However, Gamshik himself denied this information, saying that he wants to continue playing for Napoli and achieve serious success with the club [50] . At the same time, the Chelsea leadership was preparing to offer 18 million pounds for the player [51] , but the leadership of the Italian club immediately rejected this offer [52] . In December, Marek entered the list of candidates for the UEFA national team of the year. He claimed the position of the right midfielder along with such footballers as Cristiano Ronaldo , Dejan Stankovic , Milos Krasic and Jesús Navas [53] . He was also included in the list of the most promising players in the world according to France Football magazine. Two Spanish grandees began to show interest in him - Real Madrid [54] and Barcelona [55] , as well as Manchester City , whose head coach Roberto Mancini tried to get Gamshik when he was still training Inter, and Marek played for Brescia [56] . And soon, Marek again became necessary to the most "Inter" [57] . Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis said he would agree to negotiations if Inter offered more than 40 million euros for the Slovak [58] . At the beginning of March, Gamshik was recognized as the best football player in Slovakia [59] , and on March 13, the laureate entered the field in a match with Fiorentina with a captain's armband , thus becoming the youngest captain of Napoli, who brought the team to the field in official matches [ 60] . However, the captain’s debut was unsuccessful and Napoli lost with the score 1: 3 [61] . March 25, “Napoli” with a score of 3: 1, for the second time this season beat “Juventus” [62] . This match was for Gamshik, who scored the first goal of his team, the hundredth in Serie A [63] , and the match with Catania , which took place 3 days later, became the hundredth for the Slovak held in Serie A in the Napoli T-shirt. As a result, the Neapolitan club took the 6th place that season, having won the right to participate in the fourth qualifying round of the Europa League . Marek himself took part in 37 matches and scored 12 goals, becoming the team’s top scorer for the third time in a row.
Before the start of the World Cup, Marek extended the contract with the club until 2015 [64] , despite the interest from Manchester United [65] . But Marek made it clear to everyone that he was not going to leave Naples by renewing the contract with the club until 2015. In August, the Slovak helped his team beat the Swedish Elfsborg and get into the group stage of the Europa League. By the end of the year, Marek became interested in St. Petersburg Zenit , who estimated it at 30 million euros [66] , Munich Bavaria , ready to give him 35 million euros [67] and Liverpool , which offered 12 million pounds. At the same time, Marek’s agent Juraj Wenglos denied rumors that his client would move to Manchester City in the winter [68] . Despite everything, Gamshik continued to play for Napoli. In February, the Neapolitans dropped out of the Europa League when they were unable to get through Villarreal at the 1/16 final stage. The first match in Naples ended in a goalless draw [69] , in the return match Marek scored a goal already in the 18th minute of the match, but before the end of the first half, Nilmar and Giuseppe Rossi scored two goals, which brought the Spaniards a 2-1 win and an exit in the next stage [70] . At the same time, rumors reappeared about Marek’s possible departure from the club, and Barcelona became the new contender, ready to pay 30 million euros [71] , Manchester United, considering Gamshik as a replacement for Paul Scholes [72] , Inter [73 ] and Chelsea [74] . Chelsea scouts even came to see Marek for the match of the 27th round of Series A with Milan [75] , which ended with the defeat of Napoli with a score of 0: 3 [76] Soon, the player’s agent again denied all the rumors about his possible departure [ 77] , while Aurelio De Laurentiis stated that he would never sell the Slovak to another club [78] . At the end of March, Marek for the second time in a row was recognized as the best football player in Slovakia [79] . After completing their appearances in the Italian Cup and the Europa League, the Neapolitans focused on their performances in the championship . At the end of the season, Napoli took third place in the championship, which allowed the club to enter the Champions League for the first time in history.
In the summer, Marek became seriously interested in Milan, who estimated it at 30 million euros [80] . Marek himself admitted that he would like to try his hand at such a large club, but he is not going to leave Napoli [81] . Rumors of a possible transition excited the Napoli fans so much that soon Silvio Berlusconi himself had to promise them that the Rossoneri would not buy Gamshik [82] . A little later, the president of Napoli in an interview made it clear that he did not intend to part with the player, saying that he would sell Marek for only 100 million euros [83] .
September 14, 2011 in a match with Manchester City, which ended in a draw with a score 1: 1, Marek made his debut in the Champions League [84] . Shortly after the match, rumors appeared that sent the Slovak to the Manchester club to replace Carlos Tevez [85] . And already in the next match of the group stage with Villarreal , Marek opened the scoring for his goals in the most prestigious club European tournament [86] . In the last round of the group stage, Gamshik scored a goal and was recognized as the best player of the match with the Spanish club. Napoli won 2-0, and for the first time in history the Champions League playoffs came out [87] . At the end of 2011, Marek was included in the symbolic team of series A [88] and was a candidate for the national team of the year according to the UEFA [89] , and in the vote for the title of best football player in Slovakia, Gamshik lost to Martin Skrtel, only 3 points behind Liverpool defender points [90] . In the 1/8 finals of the Champions League, “Napoli” met with “Chelsea” and lost in the sum of two matches, although he was very close to success. The first trophy for a long time was added to the successful debut in the League on May 20 - the Neapolitans won the Italian Cup , defeating Juventus (2-0) in the final, and Gamshik scored one of the goals [91] . After the victory, he kept his promise made earlier and shaved off the Iroquois that became his trademark [92] . Only the average performance in Serie A, where Napoli took only 5th place, spoiled the impression of a successful season. In March, Marek again renewed the contract with the club - this time until 2016 [93] .
The 2012/13 season began for Gamshik with a deletion rare in his career, and the Slovak received a direct red card. This did not prevent Napoli from winning the match against AIK , but led to a 2-match suspension of Marek in the Europa League [94] . In Serie A, the midfielder gave such a strong start that after the first round he called him “the best in his career” [95] . On the account of Gamshik there were 7 goals and 8 assists at the end of the first half of the season. Marek spent the second round more modestly, but still with 14 assists topped the list of the best league assistants. Napoli took 2nd place and received the right to return to the Champions League for next season. In May, the football player once again announced that he was not going to leave the club. At the same time, he also recalled that a few years ago he was very close to moving to Milan, but De Laurentis and Mazzarri dissuaded him from this step [96] .
In May 2013, Napoli conducted an active transfer campaign, and invited Rafael Benitez to the role of coach. The Spaniard spoke flatteringly about Gamshik [97] , the football player extended the contract until 2018 [98] and after Paolo Cannavaro left, he received a captain’s armband [99] . Benitez found for Marek a new place on the field - under the forwards [100] . This decision has caused criticism. So Gino Corioni, president of Brescia, in which the midfielder began the Italian stage of his career, said that Benitez “limits Gamshik's talent” [101] . The problems worsened after the injury, due to which the Slovak missed the end of 2013. During his absence, Mertens and Pandev managed to prove themselves. Gamshik's place in the first team, undeniable in past years, was no longer so obvious. He finished the season with 7 goals and 6 assists, clearly inferior to both the effectiveness and quality of the game for himself in previous seasons [102] . Failed to reach a new level and Napoli. Despite the victory in the Italian Cup , the team was not only unable to impose on Juventus the expected struggle for the championship, but did not even take second place, letting Roma forward, and did not leave the group in the Champions League . Against this background, a new wave of rumors arose about Marek’s departure from Napoli [103] , even a specific amount ($ 40 million) was called for which the Neapolitans were ready to sell the player (De Laurentiis denied this information) [104] . The midfielder again had to declare his allegiance to Napoli through the press [105] .
Dalian Yifan
In early February 2019, Marek Gamshik moved to the Dalian Yifan Chinese club. The transfer amounted to 15 million euros, it is also reported that the player will receive 27 million euros for several years [106] .
Team Career
In 2003, Marek Gamšik was called up to the youth team of Slovakia , for players under the age of 17 to participate in the matches of the qualifying tournament for the 2004 European Championship . In the first qualifying round, all matches of which were held in Slovakia, Gamshik and his comrades took 2nd place in the group after Greece , beating the teams of Latvia and the Faroe Islands . Gamshik scored one goal against the Faroe Islands and scored two goals against Latvia. In the second qualifying round, which took place in March 2004, the Slovaks fell into the same group as the Germans , Danes, and Ukrainians . All matches of this round were held in Germany. Having lost the Germans and Danes in the first two matches, the Slovaks defeated the Ukrainians in the last match, who won first place, but even this victory did not help the Slovaks who took the last place in their group and did not end up in the final stage in France [107] . In total, Marek has 6 matches and 3 goals scored in the Slovak national team (under 17 years old).
The following year, the 17-year-old Gamshik was called up to the Slovak youth team (under 19) . Slovaks again took part in the qualifying tournament for the 2005 European Championship . Having passed the first qualifying round, they again failed to overcome the second and did not qualify for the European championship [108] . In mid-2006, Marek played 2 matches for the Slovak youth team in the qualifying tournament for the 2007 European Championship . After that, he was no longer called up for "youth".
At the beginning of 2007, the head coach of the Slovak national team Jan Kotsyan , being impressed by Marek’s performances for Brescia, called him into the country's main team. On February 7, 2007, in the Spanish city of Jerez de la Frontera, in a friendly match with the Polish national team , Marek Gamshik made his debut for the national team. He entered the field in the 81st minute with a score of 2: 2, which was recorded on the scoreboard after the final whistle [109] . On October 13 of the same year, Marek chalked up his first goal for the national team, and this happened in the 2008 European Championship qualifying match against the San Marino team . Marek opened the scoring in the match, which eventually ended with the score 7: 0 [110] . The qualifying round in which Marek spent 6 matches and scored 2 goals turned out to be not the best for the Slovaks and they took only fourth place in Group D, which did not allow them to reach the final stage of the European Championship .
In 2008, the selection began for the 2010 World Cup . In the first match with the Northern Ireland national team, Gamshik scored a goal that brought the Slovaks victory [111] . In early February 2009, the Slovak team went to the annual Cup of the Cyprus Football Association . Having lost the first match of the Ukrainian national team , in the match for third place the Slovaks had to play with the hosts of the tournament . And although the Cypriots were stronger, it was in this match that Marek Gamshik first put on the captain's armband in the match of the national team [112] . Throughout the year, Slovaks confidently performed in the qualifying round of the World Cup and, having won in the last round of the Poles [113] , took first place in the group and for the first time in history ended up in the final stage of the “World Cup”. Starting with the match with Poland, Marek became the new captain of his team.
Vladimir Weiss included Gamshik in the preliminary squad for the World Cup [114] , and on June 1, Marek was included in the final application [115] . The draw determined the Slovaks in group F along with the current world champions Italians , Paraguayans and New Zealanders . In the first match with the New Zealand national team, Gamshik put his team on the field with a captain's armband. The Slovaks scored in the 50th minute thanks to a goal by Robert Wittek , but in the third minute of the added time Winston Reed equalized [116] . At the time of this match, Marek was only 22 years old and 323 days old, and thanks to this he became the fourth in the list of the youngest captains who played at the world championships [117] . In the second match with the national team of Paraguay, the Slovak national team lost with the score 0: 2 [118] . After this match, the Slovaks with one point took the last place in the group, however, in the last match of the group stage they unexpectedly beat the current world champions - Italians - with a score of 3: 2 and knocked them out of the further draw [119] . This victory allowed Slovakia to take second place in the group and reach the 1/8 finals of the World Cup, where Weiss wards got to the Netherlands national team . The Slovaks failed to repeat the achievement of the last match, and they lost to the future finalists of the mundial with a score of 1: 2, after which they left the main football tournament [120] .
At the end of the World Cup, the qualifying tournament for the 2012 European Championships began. Starting with the victory over the Macedonians [121] , in the second match of the selection, the Slovaks defeated the Russian team on their field in Moscow with a score of 1: 0 [122] . However, for the entire subsequent selection, the Slovaks could only defeat the Andorran team , and in all other matches they either drew or lost. As a result, having scored 15 points, the Slovaks took fourth place in their group, which did not allow them to reach even butt games. Marek himself played in all ten selection matches without replacements.
Game quality
Gamsik is one of the most talented players in Slovakia in recent years [123] . He prefers to act on the position of the left midfielder, but often moves to the center. After Rafael Benitez came to Napoli, Gamshik more often plays under attackers. Former Napoli head coach Eddie Ray called him “a cross between Gerrard and Lampard. ” [124] Marek has a brilliant pass, he controls the ball perfectly and can take the initiative in his own hands at any time [125] .
Gamshik likes the game of midfielders who score many goals (such as Gerrard, Lampard and Zidane). But the real role model for Marek has always been Pavel Nedved [44] . Paul himself also does not hide the fact that he is impressed by the play of the Slovak, in one of the interviews he stated:
He has all the makings to surpass me. A lot of books will be written about him. At his age, Marek already surpasses me, I am sure that he will confirm the correctness of my words in the coming years [126] |
Despite his speeches, Gamshik himself admitted that he does not consider himself a world-class player, but is going to become one:
I still have to work hard to become a world-class footballer. With Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, we are definitely in different leagues. And yet lately in my game there are more good points than bad ones. As for criticism of me, in Naples you are considered a good player only if you score goals. The rest of the work is of little interest to anyone [127] |
Personal life
Marek's girl's name is Martin Franova. He met her when he was 13 years old. Martina played handball with Marek’s sister. At age 15, Marek went to Bratislava, and then went to Italy, and they did not see each other for a long time, but soon Martina moved to Italy [44] .
On January 15, 2010, using Caesarean section, she gave birth to a son weighing 3340 grams and a height of 50 cm, who was named Christian [128] . On January 5, 2012, Marek and Martina had a second son, named Lucas [129] .
Marek's sister Michael on December 27, 2010 married another Napoli player Walter Gargano [130] . The couple has a son who was born six months before the wedding [131] .
Together with his girlfriend, Marek lives in a four-room apartment in Castel Volturno , 30 km north of Naples. He has an Aprilia scooter painted in Napoli colors [132] . In December 2008, he purchased a BMW X6 , and bought a new home for his parents [44] . Then the criminals stole from Gamshik his Rolex watch worth 25 thousand pounds [133] , when he was in traffic. The watch fell to the fans of the club, who returned it to Marek. A few months later, two unidentified people robbed the house of Marek’s grandfather, but soon the attackers were caught by the police [134] .
