History
The Congo national team has never taken part in the World Championships and has participated in the final stages of the African Nations Cup six times. The Congolese have achieved the best results in their history in the 1970s. In 1972, the Congo team was the best in Africa, winning the African Cup of Nations , held in Cameroon. In the group, the Red Devils played a draw with the Moroccan national team 1: 1, lost to their neighbors from Zaire 0: 2 and beat the Sudan national team 4: 2 in the decisive match for themselves. In the semifinal, with a score of 1: 0, the hosts of the tournament, Cameroonians , were replayed, and in the final, with a score of 3: 2, the Mali team . Two years later, at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt, the Congo national team confirmed its high status by reaching the semifinals, where, however, it lost to the national team of Zambia - 2: 4. In the match for 3rd place, the Congolese suffered another defeat against the Egyptian national team - 0: 4.
The last more or less significant success of the Congo national team dates back to 1992 - reaching the quarter finals of the African Nations Cup .
